To be a cloud
and live suspended
by a piece of sky

To be a cloud
while the sun
doesn’t shine
and turns to ash
this dream of mine
give me an indigo gleam
across the abyss
of forget-me-not*
Eyes like waterfalls of
tears flowing like rivers
into the horizon
the clouds womb
where heaven and earth
become lovers
and all elements mingle
where there’s no earth
there’s no sea
there’s no flame
there’s no air
I look around
and all I see
aquamarines
aventurines
lapis lazuli
azurite

A world
in blue
glazed
tiles

I’ve been to many places, lived in many spaces, but there’s no better place than here, where my heart is.

Before becoming a digital nomad, I was a ronin, a vagrant “wave man” trying to find my way back home. I traveled everywhere, belonging to nowhere, until I found my space in a place of love at the end of war.

I’ve hanged the same sign up on the wall in all the houses where I’ve lived abroad. A gray piece from a French store called Maisons du Monde.

Kurt Donald Cobain passed away twenty-seven years ago in 1994, three years after Nirvana released Nevermind. He was an American musician, poet, songwriter, and the frontman of a generation.

For Nirvana’s fandom, Kurt was an idol. Critics describe him as a pathfinder in the fringes of alternative music and a beacon of hope for a fading genre. For an introverted teenager who obviously would favor acceptance instead of flattery, he was a reflection on the mirror. Kurt Cobain was my hero.

On the day of the Brussels bombings, I was on line 6 toward the city center. Death was coming my way on line 5. I alighted one station before we ever met.

Overture

It’s 7:58 a.m., March 22, 2016; I’m running late to catch the streetcar that crosses the Charles-Quint boulevard in Berchem-Sainte-Agathe.

I wake up to a heavy-eyed morning. The scent of fresh coffee and toast tickling my languid nostrils. I’m unaware of the terror that broke out at Brussels International Airport in Zaventem.

The explosion still echoes through the open space of the airport’s departures hall. A suicide bomber…

Thirty years ago, Metallica released The Black Album, one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed albums of all time.

Released August 12, 1991, it not only became Metallica’s first #1 album in ten countries but produced a series of earworm singles — “Enter Sandman,” “The Unforgiven,” “Nothing Else Matters,” “Wherever I May Roam,” and “Sad But True.”

Those songs became metal anthems and helped carve Metallica’s status in the music universe after receiving general recognition and scoring an astonishing airplay performance for a metal act.

We are back with the latest album highlights of the week featuring new albums by Low and Andrew W.K.

This is a journey that takes us to opposite musical hemispheres. We depart from God Is Partying, by the flamboyant singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and “professional party-goer” Andrew W.K. Afterward, we land on the nihilist slowcore plains of Hey What by Low.

Andrew W.K. —’ God Is Partying’

Andrew W.K. is a man of many talents. He has been around the music business for two decades since his seminal album I Get Wet.

W.K.’s sixth album, God Is Partying, is far away from his musical punk-related past. …

Do you believe in true love at first sight?

I don’t know about you, but I believe lovers are marked for love from the moment they are born. Hence, love would always bind us beyond a ripple in the fabric of spacetime.

However, how can you tell that someone you meet by chance in secondary school or during a business dinner is the one?

Love is the most elusive element. Love has baffled poets and scientists. Those who came close to explaining it soon realized how they had, in fact, drifted further away from its true meaning than ever before.
